A burlier chain does not necessarily stretch less. the narrower pins on a 10 speed would flex less and deal with chainline better. That said, i think eight gears on the back are enough, certainly for dh.

I've been interested in this clips/flats debate for a long time now, and I've been keeping mental notes while looking at photos and video of crashes. By far there are way more crashes due to people slipping off flats than there are crashes from people failing to unclip. Slipped flat crashes are usually pretty gnarly too. My own experience follows the same pattern. I feel unsafe on flats, and can unclip just as fast as lifting a foot off the pegs.

I ride mountain bikes for the challenges. Not saying 29ers are better by any means, but if they were, why would I want them? If I didn't want the trail to challenge me, I'd still be riding road.

I made a set of these years ago so that I could run a longer stroke shock on my Giant AC. I was getting like 7+ inches of travel for DH. DH killed the frame pretty quick though.
